How to Send NACHA ACH Files to Chase Connect
NACHAACHChaseBank Guides
Scope: the NACHA fixed-width format is a single national standard — there is no Chase-specific record layout. This guide covers the standard NACHA fields Chase Connect checks against your origination agreement, not a bank-specific file variant.
JPMorgan Chase originates ACH files through Chase Connect, its cash management portal, and accepts files formatted to the standard NACHA fixed-width specification maintained by Nacha (the ACH network operator) — not a Chase-proprietary layout. Most upload failures come from a mismatch between the file's header values and your actual origination agreement, not the record format itself.
What has to match your Chase origination agreement
| Field | Where it comes from |
|---|---|
| Company Identification | Your Chase-assigned Company ID — usually "1" plus your 9-digit IRS EIN. |
| ODFI routing number | Chase's 9-digit originating routing number, as issued in your origination agreement. |
| SEC code | PPD for payroll/consumer payments, CCD for vendor/corporate payments — Chase Connect supports both. |
| Effective entry date | Must respect Chase Connect's same-day ACH cutoff time if you're submitting for same-day settlement. |
Common rejections and the direct fix
- Company ID or routing number mismatch. Chase Connect validates the file header against your origination agreement. A typo in either field is rejected at upload, before any individual transaction is processed.
- Routing number fails the ABA check digit. This is a format-level failure, not a Chase-specific one — see ABA Routing Number Validation for how the check digit works.
- Wrong SEC code for the payment type. Mixing consumer payroll entries into a
CCDbatch (or vice versa) is a compliance issue even if the file parses — see PPD vs CCD. - Missed the same-day cutoff. Confirm same-day ACH cutoff times and per-file transaction limits with your Chase treasury services representative — these are account-specific and not encoded in the file format itself.
Generate the file
- Enter your Chase-assigned Company ID, ODFI routing number, and company name once in Company Settings.
- Map your Excel columns: receiving routing number, receiving account number, amount, and recipient name.
- Choose
PPDorCCDbased on the payment type — not by habit. - Generate and upload the resulting fixed-width file to Chase Connect.
