Frequently Asked Questions

What is a creditor identifier and where do I get one?

A Creditor Identifier (CI) is a unique reference that identifies you as a collector. In Germany, it is issued by the Bundesbank via your commercial bank. You must include this in every pain.008 file.

What is a mandate reference?

It is a unique code (up to 35 characters) assigned to each customer's mandate. It must be unique for each signed authorization you hold.

FRST vs RCUR?

Use FRST for the first collection of a recurring series. Use RCUR for all subsequent collections in that series.

CORE vs B2B?

CORE is the standard scheme for consumers. B2B is for business-to-business transactions and has shorter return timeframes but requires different bank setup.

Which banks accept this file?

Any bank in the SEPA zone that supports SEPA Direct Debit (pain.008) will accept this file, including major banks in Germany, France, Spain, and beyond.
